MO MATH: Museum of Mathematics

The world of math will never be the same…  finally, a museum just for the mathematically talented!  As I researched different materials for the start of this new math blog, I came across the most amazing news!  Are you ready for this my fellow math geeks?  THE MUSEUM OF MATHEMATICS is opening in New York City in 2012!  The museum is located at 11 East 26th Street in Manhattan.  Are you as psyched as me??!?!

The-Museum-Of-Mathematics

How many times have you sat in a team meeting discussing field trips for the upcoming school year?  Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts ALWAYS have ideas in mind.  Then, comes the math department.  We struggle to find a way to bring math to life each day and now we need to come up with a field trip that ties into the math curriculum?!?!  Enter the Museum of Mathematics and their traveling exhibit, the Math Midway

When in college and trying to choose a subject that I wanted to teach, math was my first choice.  I have always found the fun in mathematics.  However, I was alone in this arena when many of my classmates chose science because it is “hands –on” and “kids like it more”.  This Math Midway exhibit makes mathematics engaging and fun for all ages! The activities presented in this program have lesson plans that you can integrate into your classroom for grades 2 through 10.  They even have an article on how the exhibit connects to the Common Core Standards.  All of the information is available on their website, mathmidway.org.

After reviewing the traveling exhibit, make sure you check out the Museum of Mathematics at momath.org.     I am sure we will see more about this museum at the National NCTM Conference in Philadelphia this April!    I hope to see you there!

Here are a few links from MoMath and Math Midway that you don't want to miss!
